Saturday, August 27th

Our fall trip is fast approaching!  This week was dedicated to preparing ourselves for this great experience.  We had several conversations with all of the 4/5 groups together to prepare for our trip.  We have selected our tent group, planned meals, set up tents, started our trip journals all this week, and began setting our trip goals.  On Monday and Tuesday we will finalize our preparations for the trip.  Students received a packing list for the trip, so take a look at it with them over the weekend. Thanks for all the help getting your paperwork in, too!
Friday was a great day for me.  Getting to spend some one on one time with your student really helps me get to know them better as learners.  Everyone had the opportunity to have a conversation with me about their reading, as well as do a short yet informative reading and writing assessment.

Have a great weekend,

Bryan

Friday, August 19th

Welcome back again, everybody.  It was great to see you all at the New Year's Eve party and our Trip Meeting/Back to School Night.  Even though our first week was only two days, we are already getting into the swing of things.
What a luxury it is to have 18 students in our advising group!  We spent a lot of time on Thursday discussing rhythms and routines, and on Friday dove right in.  We finished our letters to selves, where we wrote about out excitements, hopes, and worries about our school year.  We will open these letters on the last day of school. We also created our own personal coat of arms, that will be on display in our classroom. Come and see if you can identify your student's coat of arms.  And finally, we did the egg drop, which several eggs survived a drop off of the roof!
Next week we will start preparing our students for our trip.  We will introduce our trip, plan meals, create tent groups. and discuss expectations, worries, and set trip goals.  Please hand in your trip paperwork and copy of health insurance if you have not done so yet.
Math will also begin next week.  If your student is in 5th grade, they will have math with Per.  If your student is in 4th, They will be in my math class.
Finally, Friday is our testing day.  Your student will be doing a reading and writing activity during this time.  Your student will be at school only for the hour you have scheduled on that day.

 Have a great weekend,

Bryan

Welcome back, everyone!  I hope your summer was as enjoyable as mine.  We did some travelling inside of Colorado, going to Silt for the Colorado State Beekeeper's Association's Summer meeting, where I took my field test to enter the Master Beekeeper's Program.

We also went to Palisade for the annual Lavender Festival.  Palisade is well known for it's wineries and vineyards, but there is also a budding(get it?) lavender industry out there.  This is the second year we've done to this festival and have fallen in love with Palisade.

Another highlight from my summer was climbing Mt. Bierstadt with my daughter.  This is the third time we've tried, and made it up successfully. What a beautiful day we had, too.

I'm excited to get the year started and can't wait to start building community in our new classroom.  Please notice the upcoming dates on the right bar, as well as other helpful information.

Thanks,

Bryan
